Stephanie Wainwright

Designation: Speech Therapist

I graduated from The University of Cape Town in 2007 with a BSc in Speech Language Pathology and completed my community service year in Ermelo, Mpumalanga. In 2009 I spent six months working in the paediatric unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto. During this period I experienced working in a large team of therapists in the areas of Early Childhood Intervention, Neurological disorders and Paediatric Dysphagia. I then decided to move home to Cape Town where I’ve worked in private practice ever since. I have been running my own practice since 2013. I have also had experience in supervising university students in their school clinics. Working in this setting has allowed me to gain a range of experience in all areas of speech therapy but my particular passion is for early intervention with children under 3 years. I have extensive experience with adults with acquired neurological conditions and am particularly interested in Apraxia of Speech. I enjoy continuously learning and growing and am grateful for the wide range of wonderful people that this profession brings into my life.

I acquired a degree in B. Speech – Language – and Hearing Therapy at the University of Stellenbosch, after which I completed my community service year in East London, where I had the opportunity to gain invaluable experience, build wonderful relationships and experience a very special culture. I returned to Cape Town, where I had the privilege of being part of Stephanie Wainwright Speech Therapists, working in diverse settings, including schools and hospitals. In 2016, my journey took me to Spain where my heart was opened to a very different, dynamic nation with it’s weird and wonderful culture. I enjoy working with people of all ages and I especially have a great passion for working with children. Their resilience and sense of hope is inspiring and I often find myself learning a great deal from them. I am passionate about my profession – I find great joy in the uniqueness of each child and playing a small part in shaping their future.

Designation: Speech Therapist

I graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2014 with a BSc in Speech-Language Pathology. I then completed my community service year at Port Elizabeth Hospital Complex in 2015, where I rotated between three hospitals. I gained invaluable experience in many areas of speech therapy within adult and paediatric populations in acute care settings.

I enjoy working with a wide range of adult and paediatric speech, language, feeding and swallowing disorders. I am especially interested in feeding and swallowing (with adults and paediatrics), autism spectrum disorder and adult neurological disorders. I am passionate about what we do as speech therapists and I hope to one day complete my Masters in order to contribute to South African research and develop as a therapist.
